How to get your Google Form URL

  1. Open your Google Form in editing mode
  2. Click the Send button (top right corner)
  3. Click the link icon (chain link symbol) in the Send dialog
  4. Check "Shorten URL" to get a forms.gle/... link — this creates a cleaner QR code
  5. Copy the link and paste it into the generator above
Tip: Use the shortened forms.gle/... URL — it creates far fewer QR modules than the full URL and scans much faster, especially when printed small.

Google Form QR code best practices

Set response settings before printing. In Google Forms → Settings, configure whether the form accepts one response per person (requires Google sign-in), allows editing after submission, and shows a confirmation message. Change these before the QR code is distributed — updating the form URL after printing means reprinting.

Check mobile layout. Scan your QR and complete the form on a phone before printing. Long text questions and file upload fields can be awkward on small screens. Keep forms short — 5 questions or fewer works best for on-the-spot scanning.

Response notifications. In Google Forms, turn on email notifications for new responses (Responses tab → three-dot menu → Get email notifications) so you're alerted the moment someone submits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the URL for my Google Form?
In Google Forms, click Send → link icon → check "Shorten URL" → copy the forms.gle/... link. The shortened URL creates a cleaner QR code that scans faster than the full docs.google.com URL.
Should I use the shortened or full Google Form URL?
Always use the shortened forms.gle/... link for QR codes. The full URL is very long and produces a dense, hard-to-scan QR code, especially when printed at small sizes.
Can I close the form after the QR code is printed?
Yes, but scanners will see "Form is no longer accepting responses." If you know the form will close, add a closing date notice inside the form itself before printing the QR code.
Does the QR code expire?
No. The QR code is a static image encoding the form URL. It works forever — or until you close the form in Google Forms.
