NFC Digital Business Card
A physical card with an embedded NFC chip — tap to any NFC-enabled smartphone and your contact opens instantly. Generate the QR code backup below for phones without NFC or for remote sharing.
How NFC business cards work
NFC (Near Field Communication) is a short-range wireless standard. When you hold an NFC card within 4 cm of a compatible phone, the chip in the card communicates wirelessly with the phone's NFC reader. No internet connection or Bluetooth required — the phone reads the chip directly.
The chip is typically programmed with a URL (your LinkedIn profile, a contact page, or a vCard download link). When the phone detects the tap, it opens that URL in the browser automatically. On iPhone (iOS 14+), this happens without any app — the system NFC reader activates on its own. On Android, NFC must be switched on in Settings → Connected devices.
NFC vs QR code: use both
| Feature | NFC | QR code |
|---|---|---|
| Works on all phones | ✓ Most (iPhone 7+, Android 6+) | ✓ All (any camera app) |
| Requires phone proximity | ✓ Within 4 cm | ✗ Just needs line of sight |
| Works by post or email | ✗ Physical tap only | ✓ Print or display on screen |
| Data is updateable | ✓ Reprogram the chip | ✗ Must reprint QR code |
| Setup required | Buy + program chip | Generate + download instantly |
The best NFC cards include a QR code on the back — covering any situation where NFC doesn't work (older phones, disabled NFC, posting the card remotely).
How to get and program an NFC business card
Option 1 — Buy a programmable blank NFC card: Available on Amazon or AliExpress for under €1 each. Use a free app like NFC Tools (Android/iOS) to write a URL or vCard to the chip. Then add your printed design and the QR code from QRLifetime.
Option 2 — Order from an NFC card service: Suppliers like Linq, Popl, or Mobilo let you order printed cards with a pre-programmed NFC chip. Most let you upload a custom design. More expensive per card but no programming required.
Creating the QR backup: Generate your vCard QR above, download as SVG, and include it in your card design. When your designer lays out the card, place the QR on the back with a small label like "Scan to save contact."
