Use our PDF QR code generator — paste your menu URL, customize style, download. Free, no account.

Step 1: Host your menu

You need a publicly accessible URL for your menu. The easiest options:

Google Drive — Recommended (free)
  1. Upload your menu PDF to Google Drive
  2. Right-click → Share → "Anyone with the link" can view
  3. Copy the share link
  4. For a clean PDF viewer, change /view to /preview in the URL
Your own website
Upload the PDF to your site (e.g. restaurant.com/menu.pdf). When the menu changes, replace the file — the URL stays the same, the QR code stays the same.
Restaurant management software
Platforms like Square, Toast, or Lightspeed often include digital menu hosting with a built-in URL. Check your dashboard for a "Digital Menu" or "Online Menu" link.

Step 2: Create the QR code

  1. Go to qrlifetime.com/pdf-qr-code-generator
  2. Paste your menu URL
  3. Customize: match your restaurant colors (dots, corners)
  4. Optional: add your logo in the center (use H error correction)
  5. Download as SVG for print (infinitely scalable) or PNG at 2048px

Step 3: Design your signage

The QR code placement and design matters as much as the code itself. Customers need to understand what they're scanning before they scan it.

  • Always add a label — "Scan for menu" in large text above or below the code. Don't assume customers know what it does.
  • Table tent cards — the most reliable placement. Printed on 300gsm card, laminated for longevity. 5×5 cm QR on an A6 card is standard.
  • Stickers on the table — popular but prone to wear. Use durable vinyl stickers or replace monthly.
  • Minimum size — 4×4 cm for a table scan distance of ~30 cm.
  • High contrast — dark modules on white background. Avoid light gray on white or dark on dark.

Step 4: Keep the menu current

The biggest advantage of a QR-based digital menu is how easy it is to update. When prices change or dishes are added:

  • Update your PDF and re-upload it with the same filename (overwrites the old one)
  • If using Google Drive, replace the file in-place — the share link doesn't change
  • No reprinting QR codes needed — the code points to the same URL

Common mistakes to avoid

✗ Don't do this
  • QR code without any label
  • Code smaller than 3×3 cm
  • Low contrast colors
  • Menu PDF behind login wall
  • Link to a PDF that downloads instead of opening
✓ Do this instead
  • "Scan for menu" text + QR
  • 5×5 cm minimum on table cards
  • Dark on white, high contrast
  • Public link, no login required
  • PDF /preview URL (inline viewer)

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a QR code for my restaurant menu?
Upload your menu PDF to Google Drive, set sharing to "Anyone with the link", copy the link, paste it into QRLifetime, download the QR code. Done in 5 minutes.
Does a menu QR code expire?
No. QRLifetime creates static QR codes that never expire. The code points to your URL — update the PDF at that URL when the menu changes.
What size should a restaurant menu QR code be?
For a table tent (A6 card), 5×5 cm minimum. Download at 1024×1024 px for a sharp print. For larger signage, 10×10 cm and 2048 px.
