Scan a QR code from your browser →
Use our online QR code scanner — works on iPhone, Android, and computer. No app download. Click, grant camera access, point, done.
Scan a QR code on iPhone
On iPhone with iOS 11 or later (released 2017), scanning is built into the Camera app:
- Open the Camera app (not the scanner in Control Center)
- Point at the QR code — no need to tap anything
- Wait 1–2 seconds — a notification appears at the top of the screen
- Tap the notification to open the link or perform the action
If scanning isn't working: Settings → Camera → make sure "Scan QR Codes" is turned on.
Scan a QR code on Android
Android 8 (Oreo) and later include QR scanning in the Camera app. The exact steps vary slightly by manufacturer:
Samsung Galaxy
Open Camera → Bixby Vision icon → scan. Or: Camera app directly detects QR codes from Android 12+.
Google Pixel
Open Camera → point at QR code → tap notification. Very reliable.
OnePlus / Xiaomi
Open Camera → look for "Document" or "Scan" mode, or just point the main lens — newer models detect automatically.
Older Android
Install Google Lens from the Play Store, or use the Google Search widget → Lens icon. Free.
Scan from a screenshot or image
If you received a QR code as an image (screenshot, photo, email), you can scan it without printing:
iPhone
Open Photos → find the screenshot → tap and hold the QR code in the image → iOS will show a popup with the link option.
Android
Open Google Lens → Select from gallery → choose the screenshot. Or hold the QR code under your camera and use the online scanner.
Computer (Mac / Windows)
Use our online scanner — upload the image file, or share your screen camera and point at a printed code.
Scan a QR code on a computer
Your computer doesn't have a dedicated QR scanner, but you have two options:
- Use your phone — most practical. If the QR code is on your screen, point your phone camera at it.
- Use our browser scanner — go to qrlifetime.com/barcode-scanner, click "Upload image", and select the file containing the QR code. Works on any OS.
Troubleshooting — QR code won't scan
- Poor lighting — QR codes need adequate contrast. Add light or increase screen brightness.
- Too small — fill at least 1/3 of the camera viewfinder with the QR code.
- Damaged or dirty — clean the code if printed, or ask for a new copy.
- Glare — tilt the QR code or your phone slightly to reduce reflections.
- Focus — tap the QR code on your screen to force focus.
Frequently asked questions
Can I scan a QR code without an app?
Yes. iPhones with iOS 11+ and Android 8+ scan QR codes from the native Camera app — no third-party app needed. Use our online scanner for older devices or computers.
How do I scan a QR code from a screenshot?
On iPhone, open Photos, find the screenshot, tap and hold the QR code — iOS will detect and open it. On Android, use Google Lens on the saved image.
Is it safe to scan QR codes?
Generally yes, but the same precautions as with clicking links apply. Always check the URL preview that appears before tapping. Avoid scanning codes on random stickers placed over legitimate signage — a common "quishing" (QR phishing) technique.
