About Code 128
Code 128 is a high-density linear barcode symbology that can encode all 128 characters of the ASCII character set. Unlike EAN/UPC, there's no fixed length — it adapts to however long your data is. It's the most commonly used format for shipping labels (including GS1-128 / UCC-128), warehouse management, and internal tracking systems. It has excellent scanner compatibility and can be printed very small without losing readability.

What can a Code 128 barcode encode?
The full 128-character ASCII set — letters, digits, punctuation and control characters — with no fixed length. That flexibility is why it is the standard for shipping labels, warehouse locations and internal asset tags, where EAN and UPC (digits only, fixed length) do not fit.
Which Code 128 subset should I use?
Subset B covers upper and lower case letters plus digits and is the safe default. Subset C encodes pairs of digits and roughly halves the width for numeric-only data. Subset A adds control characters. Most encoders, including this one, switch subsets automatically for the shortest result.
